New LPN Grad

Published

Hi all - its me again. I graduated in December, passed boards in Feb., relocated to NC and got accredited mid-April. I have been looking for work ever since. I am even looking 1.5 hours out of my radius. I have had tons of good suggestions on here - from going county to county within that radius to going face to face when I drop off applications/resumes - and I appreciate all of it.

I have been applying to nursing homes (as someone suggested, I went to the site that lists the counties in the area that I am searching, wrote down all the names of the nursing homes/LTC facilities and hospitals in that area and started googling them/calling them), I have been applying to the 3 local hospitals here plus anywhere within my 1.5 hour range that is hiring, I have applied at home health agencies, networked with friends here in addition to my nursing director back in TN, put my profile on Linkedin, and even applied recently to volunteer giving shots through our county healthcare system hoping it will provide me with even more networking. I look at Indeed.com, careerbuilders.com, monster.com, my newspaper website, my news channel website, USAjobs.com (they have the prison listings and VA usually) and I am still without work.

I am not sure what else to do. I applied at an employment agency this morning just so I could have some income coming in, but I know it is going to take away from my job searching. I have had my nursing director as well as some local LPN's that I have networked with to look over my resume/cover letter and only minor changes were made so thats all in order. I am going tomorrow to either the library or local hospital as it was suggested to me there may be listings/recruiters in the back of nursing magazines. Thats the last of what I know to do. I have been following up as best as I can - I simply feel defeated and disheartened. This is all I have ever wanted to do - and while I am thankful I have something to fall back on, I didn't work this hard to get thru nursing school to continue my career as an administrative assistant. I know I dont have it as bad off as most - I do count my blessings - I just feel that since this is so new to me and I dont know where to turn (I have never had so much difficulty finding a job and its really knocking down my self esteem!) I thought I would come here and seek out support/good vibes/suggestions from people who have been here/are here in my same position. I guess when I type it all out I have done a lot since mid-april - I just dont know how much longer I can hold out. Thanks for readiing and thanks for the support.

Hi, Lifeisgood.

I'm a LPN working for the state government here in Michigan. They hired me as a new grad a few years ago. I HIGHLY recommend working for the government if at all possible.

I would NEVER work for the private

sector again unless I had no choice. Soooo many benefits of working for the government and being in a union.

I just went to the state of North

Carolina website and I saw four LPN postings. 2 in Wayne county. 1 in Lenoir County and 1 in Wilson County. I have NO idea where those counties are, but I guess you do. They all seemed to be LTC and/or psych hospitals.

Good luck!
