New LPN Grad Pay

Hi all. First I do not want anyone to take this the wrong way. I am a recent LPN grad looking for work. I did find a place that offered me full time days working TCU at a nursing home. HR offered me $17.50 per hour to start. Is this pay a little low to you or do I need a reality check? I know many people are looking for work and would be very happy to just have something. I would really like some feedback on this. By the way I counter-offered him $18.50 and he said he will see what he can do. No harm in asking right? I guess I had it in my mind that I should be making at least $20 per hour. God Bless and thank-you for responding.:mnnnrsngrk:

That depends on where you live. Different states will have different levels of pay based on the cost of living. When I started as an LPN at a nursing home I was only offered 14.50 an hour with differential but that was in the middle of no where in Oklahoma where cost of living is overall kinda of low compared to somewhere like California.

Down here in SW Ohio, I believe the starting pay for LPNs is $15-17.

Some people swing $24 an hour, while others can only muster $16 an hour in the same area. Different employers and/or different negotiating skills, or luck of the draw. Try to find out from others what the range is so that you go to an interview prepared to know where to make a stand. In the end, realize that if you settle for a lower wage, you can still continue to look for better paying options while amassing work experience. Good luck.

10.75 hour in rural Georgia. Higher in Atlanta. This is why Lpns do not stay here long!

you need a reality check. get the experience and then go for more money... go look at the LPN board and see how many are

out of work. I was licensed in Feb 2011 and still no job. Lots of applications, but nothing. Pounded the pavement, still waiting by the phone like charlie brown. Its soo bad in my area, that nursing homes make you sign an additional paper saying you will not call them with follow up and that your name will be taken out of the pool if you do. Yes, agreeing not to call back!!

they will call you, dont call them!! lol, so take the job, get experience, then you can get something better with more money.
