New LPN grad...should I get my temporary license?

Hello everyone,

I am a new graduate of the LPN program, just finished last month. I still haven't sent out the application package for the temporary license, but with the current AHS hiring freeze, it seems difficult to get a job as an LPN right now. I write my exam in September. Maybe I'm just being impatient, but I'm afraid I won't be able to find a job as an LPN before that time, so I'm not sure whether or not it's even worth it at this point to pay the fee for a temp.

Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks!

*By the way, I'm from Alberta!

A friend who just graduated and will write in September found a casual line in a non-profit. So there are jobs out there. Any experience will help when it comes to exam writing time and experience is gained.

I don't know if it is true in Alberta, but in Ontario you had to have a job offer to apply for a temp license.

Yes despite the bleak job market, there are alternatives to AHS and the hiring freeze won't last forever. You should still apply to AHS as well since they may say no, but some lines might need to be filled and with the firing of the AHS Board last week, who knows what will happen?

Also check out of Province. These days people need to be flexible and go where the jobs are. Unfortunately, cutbacks, hiring freezes and layoffs are the new reality.
