  1. Hi Cynthia, Thank you so much for sharing this! Is there any way we can get in touch as I am considering registering and it would be helpful to connect with someone! Not sure how to PM you here through this site, it won’t allow me for some reason.
  2. At the time, there was an option open to apply for Spring 2020. I emailed Norquest to get clarification on their closure and it sounds like there won’t be a refresher program anymore. They were only able to provide limited information. They mentioned there was a possibility of having to be grandfathered into the full PN program. I find that crazy how there are no options other than to pay for and repeat the entire PN program again. Did you try and contact the CLPNA about what else can be done?
  3. I know how you feel. Had I known, I would have done the same as well. There should definitely be more options. I hope they will in the future, but I don’t see that happening any time soon. Where did you find that information out about the Norquest refresher program? I made a last minute application on April 10 and still received a confirmation. I’m wondering if it’s now just closed for this academic year.
  4. Hi there, Just responding to your post because I’m in the same situation. I graduated from Bow Valley College in 2013, but I haven’t worked since 2016. I contacted Bow Valley College to find out if they had a refresher program, to which I was also surprised that they don’t. I was thinking of just repeating the program again at Bow Valley, but it’s also not really a feasible option. It seems that NorQuest is the only option for a refresher. I’m hesitant about the distance learning and then needing to take up the clinical and practicums in Edmonton. I really wish there were more options too. Anyways, I know this post wasn’t helpful to you but hello from just another fellow in the same boat!
  5. Hello everyone! I feel unsure what to do in my situation right now, so I would really appreciate any thoughts/advice! :) Here's my story: I graduated the practical nursing program and wrote my exam in September 2013. However, it has been difficult to find a job. I know most get a job through their preceptorships - but at the time, I was told that Alberta Health Services was going through a hiring freeze. Anyways, I finally landed an LPN position in January 2013 at a clinic. I'm thankful to be working as an LPN now, but I feel like I'm not where I should be. I don't get to utilize any of the skills that I learned during school, so I'm losing all my knowledge and skills. I would love to get a position in the hospital, however I feel like I don't know anything anymore since I haven't used any of my skills since I was in school so why would they want to hire me when I don't know anything/basically have to re-learn the skills. I feel so incompetent. I don't know what to do at this point. I don't know whether I should continue nursing anymore (because 1) I feel like I don't know anything, 2) haven't utilized any skills recently) I would sincerely appreciate someone's opinion on my situation and what they would do in my situation. Thank you!
  6. Hello everyone, I am a new graduate of the LPN program, just finished last month. I still haven't sent out the application package for the temporary license, but with the current AHS hiring freeze, it seems difficult to get a job as an LPN right now. I write my exam in September. Maybe I'm just being impatient, but I'm afraid I won't be able to find a job as an LPN before that time, so I'm not sure whether or not it's even worth it at this point to pay the fee for a temp. Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks! *By the way, I'm from Alberta!
