New LPN feeling like a CNA? Loosing skills!

I am a new LPN of one year and I feel like i am still working as a CNA? My RN does not allow you to try to use your skills? After all the schooling time and money I am not able to use any of it. Should i stay where i am or should i try to move on so i can learn and use more skills, i pass meds and give pt care, no g-tbes,iv's,ng-tubes,trac's put it this way..if i get to do a catheter i am very lucky! Should i stay or move on?

Are you sure it is the RN that is not allowing you to complete these skills? Because where I work the policies are what prevents our LPN's from practicing to their full scope. The are not allowed to give meds on most floors and do mostly personal care. They don't take their own patient assignments or touch IV's or G-tubes. If it is the policies then perhaps you can speak with your manager and show her/him how eager you are to start practicing your full scope. If it is the RN that is preventing this, have you spoken to her about it??

Thanks for your reply. It is the RN who is not allowing the lpn's to use there skills due to the fact she doesn't use them her self so she no longer knows how the correct way, so instead of her letting me use my full scope experience she calls for help elsewhere, a pride issue i guess? She is more concerned with making friends and being a push over to most on the floor. I guess when she found out i was a more professional minded then the rest it makes a issue? I am in a long term care facility and last nursing home i worked in we were able to do these things?? Thank god i am going for my RN it will take another year but can;t wait!
