New job as wellness screener nurse...

Published

I'm an LPN. I just got hired on as a subcontractor wellness screener nurse for a company that holds health screenings all over the country. I just signed up for my first event on the company website on Feb. 21st about 2 hours from my house. I took this job because I am a stay at home mom, and haven't worked much since becoming an LPN. I can't work full time because of my kids. This job has flexible hours which are better for me.

Anyway, I just had a couple of questions... For those of you who have worked these type of clinics, what should I expect? The recruiter on the phone said the company would try to place me with trained staff at my first couple of events. I'm nervous though where I have never done one of these clinics before, & am hoping I'm not one of the only staff that shows up! lol For those of you who have worked these type clinics, was there experienced staff & were they helpful? The event I'm scheduled for says that we will be doing height, weight, BP, cholesterol check, and waist measurement. Thanks!

I did flu clinics and worked with staff who did the wellness clinics. It's fairly easy and I'm sure it won't take you long to get a hang of it!!

Thanks, ejm123... I hope so!

Specializes in 4.

It's fairly easy & once you get used to the machines, you will be fine. The only suggestion is to get use to the capillary tubes needed for the cholesterol checks. The way to get better is repetition. Good luck!!!!

I've been a nurse for 30 yrs, and I can tell you anything NEW usually makes me a nervous wreck. I just try to remember to shut my mouth, (anxiety talking) listen, ask qx's, and in a few days time I'm ready to rock with the best of them. Besides, unless this event is REAL differnet than those I've done, people will come in by trickle so you won't be overwhelmed, which means you can spend the time to learn, AND GOOD FOR YOU getting a job that is not sticking you in a corner you'd not like!

Thanks everyone, your comments make me feel better!
