New Job!!

I'm not sure if this has been addressed before here, but if it has, I apologize for a repeat thread.

Currently I work in a hospital on LI. I recently accepted a position in a hospital in NYC. The job I'm currently at is the only job I've had as a registered nurse, so I've never had to quit a "real" job before. My question is, what should I say in my resignation letter, andwhat to tell my supervisors? I learned a ton, made a bunch of great friends, and overall had a good experience. I decided to take this new job for a number of reasons, some of them being that I'm 24 and live with my dad (so now I will live on my own in NYC), I'll make more money (but I will have to pay rent!), and the hospital that I will be working at has a great reputation. I figure if I don't take the opportunity to live and work in NYC now while I'm young, single and childless, I may never do it.

So, back to my question, how detailed should I be in the letter, or is it better to explain my feelings face-to-face with supervisors (not sure if there is an exit interview)? I don't want to burn any bridges as I may want a job there in the future. Also, I feel a little bad resigning just before the holidays, but a month is ample notice, right?

I think two weeks notice is pretty standard unless you signed a contract that says something different, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

I wouldn't be too detailed in your letter. You might just say that you've accepted a position at another hospital. I think it's great to say that you had a great experience. I wouldn't include anything negative in the letter, so as not to burn bridges.

Each hospital has its own policy on whether or not they conduct exit interviews.
