New job or stay?

Published

Hi guys,

I hope you guys are staying safe during this pandemic.

I am currently working at one of the hospitals where we are experiencing a mass exodus (have worked here for 4years). People were not happy about how the hospital treated their staff and make all the changes during the pandemic. (took away senior benefits, self-scheduling etc)

I recently started school to become a nurse practitioner so I am trying to focus on school work. However, everybody is slowly leaving and I am not sure if I should stay or find a new job for myself to be in a better work environment.

I know the grass is not always greener on the other side.

I just want some advice from people.

Thank you in advance.

Advice based on what, exactly? ..."people" not being happy and "everybody" slowly leaving?

Make yourself a list of pros and cons, then go from there.

You leave out a lot of pertinent information.  You don't say how you personally feel about your work environment.  Does the amount of people leaving affect your job?  Do you have the same gripes as the people who are leaving?  After four years are you comfortable with your job?  what kind of unit do you work in?  what are your stress levels?  what type of scheduling do you have?  Someone who is going to school should have as little stress as possible and a fairly flexible schedule, or at least a set schedule that you are comfortable with.  A new job can be very stressful; you don't actually know if it will be any better than your old job.  If your old job is high stress and you're not happy, then by all means find something better.  If your current job gives you a certain secure comfort level, then stay.

Ditto the others, but since you are school, and when you finish will most likely leave anyway to get an NP job, I would just stay where you are and suck it up for now.  Why look for a job twice?
