New to Home Health

So I started a full time home health job 2 months ago, never having worked in home health before. I have 20+ years nursing experience in telemetry, ICU, cardiac rehab, and LPN instructor. In the first six weeks of working at this agency, the branch manager quit, the other RN case manager quit and an LPN quit-all without notice. Today I met with the administrator of the office and expressed, face to face (I have talked to her on phone previously), my concerns about the stress at the office because of this and my feelings that I haven't been given adequate training, especially with the OASIS. Her response was, it wasn't her fault those people quit and if I wasn't totally committed to working with their company, I shouldn't continue working there. I don't think I have ever met anyone who seemed to have no care or concern about their employees.

So should I give two weeks notice and hope I can find something else or keep working there hoping it will improve, since it's only been 2 months?

Geez, sounds like the agency I used to work for. Why not try and hang in there? Can you get your hands on an 'Oasis Answers", 2011 book. It will review every question on the OASIS and even gives examples. Are you doing field work (making visits)? Take the time to read through each of the OASIS', so that you can become familiar with the information and layout. It seems like a lot, but you can handle it better if you become familiar with it during your off time, without distractions. Best Luck to you.

I left my job 4 weeks ago. I resigned because I felt it was a very negative environment, and despite how well I typically handle stress, I recognized that negativity was coming home with me. As a matter of fact I gradually was becoming one of those negative people. Despite the recession, I felt that NO ONE had the right to take my self esteem, confidence, and my sense of security from me...So, I quit. I have had wonderful interviews, numerous offers...in just this short period of time. It was the right choice. Your experience is impressive. I'm sure if you left you would find yourself with many good opportunities. I would suggest you take a good honest look at how you feel inside and if you don't like it....change it! You can do it and you can be a better nurse for caring for yourself!!!! Good luck to you!
