New grads: what did you do with your notes from nursing school?

Published

Here's a question: did you save your notes/powerpoints from nursing school or get rid of them? For those that saved them: do you ever refer to them? I have about 5 big notebooks full of notes/powerpoints/etc. and am wondering if there would be any benefit to holding on to them...

When I graduated last year, I threw all of the hard copies of my notes into a storage locker and put it in my closet. I burned all of the computer copies to a disc. I have to admit that I never went into that locker all year, though I did view/print some of the computer copies, especially the notes for my specialty area.

Now that I'm no longer a new grad, I plan to burn all of the hard copies as well as my clinical uniform. I'll still hold onto that disc, though :)

All of my notes except the first quarter of the program are on my computer. I plan to keep them, along with a couple of my textbooks. I feel like they'll be helpful for at least the first year out of school.

I throw my notes away after every class. If I want to look something up it is easier to look it up online or in a book rather then my notes.

i sold em to interested parties.....any takers?

If you toss them, please recycle. :D That's what I did with mine -- the recycle bin! It was very liberating.

Well...I was talking with some other nursing students about burning them in a bonfire after the last final...talk about liberating ;) Not sure about the environmental part though. I wasn't sure if there would really be any reason to hold on to them for reference. Keeping copies of the powerpoints on a disc isn't a bad idea. I know some people who held onto their notes for sentimental reasons..never thought about selling them, LOL.

Most of my notes are on the computer.. so I've gotten rid of some of my hard copies but I still need to clear out some stuff. I graduated Aug 6th, and I've sold a few books as well. I plan on keeping my fundamentals and med/surg books.

i have all of my nursing books still. but my notes i plan on burning tonight or tomorrow night before i take the next step in my nursing journey : )

I'll be getting rid of the vast majority of paper notes, and my laptop crashed with the rest of them. Unfortunately a lot of my papers were on that laptop. :( The paper notes I will keep are from two specific lecturers. Lots of "real world" med/surg advice. Unfortunately our peds and maternal/newborn lecturers weren't very good so all those notes are already thrown out even though that's the specialty area I like. They were out of practice for too long and didn't stay up to date.

I will be keeping all of my papers though.
