NEW GRADS! JOBS??

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

I'm graduating with my BSN in December and plan on taking my boards in NJ. I'm looking for some input from new grads....who has landed a new grad position recently?? Is the market getting any better? I am looking in the northern jersey area and I am not picky by any means.

Any info would greatly appreciated!!!!

Thank you

Markets worse. there are no jobs. Good luck apply in southern/western states!

Start applying early. If you know anyone that works in any of the hospital systems in New Jersey, ask them to put you in contact with hiring managers or recruiters. Ask your instructors for letters of recommendation. Apply to take the NCLEX as early as possible because the process in New Jersey takes several months. Schedule the soonest NCLEX date that you can. Apply frequently to all facilities/areas of nursing. Be willing to accept a less-than-ideal first job. Be patient, persistant, and pray the market here turns around.

Thanks so much for the input! I have already started to applying to a number of positions. I have 5 letters of recommendation and plan of taking the NCLEX asap. Im taking a kaplan course right when school ends and im gonna schedule the NCLEX the earliest I can. And, I am certainly not picky. I just want to land that first job. It really takes several months to get your license in NJ?

It didn't take me several months to get my license. Just make sure to apply before school ends. Around the end of November so then all the state is waiting for is your school to send your transcripts. I applied the 2nd week of December and had my ATT by the beginning of January. I took the NCLEX at the end of January and was licensed by the 2nd week of February. This was last year. It didn't take long at all.

Oh and good luck job hunting! I am working in homecare I found they hired new grads believe it or not. I am job searching and am getting some hits since I have 7 months of experience.

mel101478, could you tell me which home care agency is hiring new grads? I am in south jersey, received my license in July and have applied to everything and am still looking.

starlight pediatrics intm laurel and nbn group in cherry hill hire new grads. good luck.

Thank you, I think that they are the only ones that I did not send a resume to.

Thanks for the info on home care. I have heard of starlight pediatrics. Have you worked there or have any input about it?

Try getting in as an Aide or so into a hospital system. This way your already in the system and it will get you a chance to interview with the manager or director. During the interview it will come out that you will have your BSN in December and the Manager my hire you with intentions of giving you a postion once you pass your boards.

I see this throughout my sytem...

You should have done this prior however this is good advice for someone after finishing their first year of nursing school.

Also RN's ... BSN's are a must.... Most hospitals are now hiring only BSN (which they consider a professional Nurse).

Hope this helps you out some.

Congrats and i wish you much success in your field, it is easily possible...

I see it everyday and seen it with my with in as little as Five years... In which she has gone from RN to BSN to APN....
