I will be graduating(RN/ADN) in December.I really want to get in OB/Womens health or Labor/Delivery dept.and every job i see says you either need 1-2yrs experience or Fetal Monitoring certifications. How can you have experience if no one will give you a chance.I have also been trying to get in ob/gyn private offices but where do they post these type of job opening. Ive been on cleveland.com/plain dealer looking. Does anyone have any advice on how I can get in this dept.

Specializes in MICU for 4 years, now PICU for 3 years!.

Try checking on specific hospital's websites. I saw postings for L&D and Post-partum listed at Fairview Hospital when I was applying for jobs. I don't believe that they required experience. Good luck!

Fairview just hired 19 new grads in L&D!!!!!!!!! I know this for a fact - I know one of the nurses hired

Specializes in CICU.

I did my clinicals and practicum at Fairview. It is a very nice hospital. Recently they did hire a lot of new grads, but the rumor mill states that they are having some difficulties. They might limit the new grads like they did in their critical care areas. UH is hiring for both L&D and mother/baby and they accept new grads. Good luck.

Specializes in level 3 NICU.
metro hires new grads in l&d, nicu and mother baby unit. there are always plenty of deliveres and overtime availble!

As an experienced L&D nurse, I would suggest you get your experience at one of the teaching/high risk hospitals. You will get a much better learning experience and have more to offer a smaller hospital that still does OB. Some of the smaller hospitals will routinely stick their new grads on PP for a year or so to "get their feet wet".....which honestly I have no problem with. You gotta learn the basics. I did my time at Metro and learned so much.
