Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Moved to the International forum as per the red banner asking registration and immigration questions to be asked in the International forum

Which province do you want to work in Canada? That would be the starting point. Have you passed NCLEX? You will need to sit the Canadian CRNE which is held in Canada 3 times a year. There are many threads regarding application to Canada and you may have better luck with the search facility using key words like Ontario or Nova Scotia depending on where you want to work

Where do you want to work? What province? What is your immigration status? You have to go to the province you are interested in and then no matter your immigration status you would be deemed a foreign educated nurse and follow the requirements for foreign trained nurses. But if you are a US citizen you would also have to deal with immigration as well. The usual process is having your education assessed and filling out an application. In Canada the State Board of Nursing is the College of Nursing (ie) In BC it is called The College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia. It is easy to find their website by doing a google search. For whatever province you are interested in just replaced the province name in your google search. After the application there may be specific requirements for each governing body and part of registration (like licensure) is writing the Canadian exam which is only offered 3 times a year (Oct, Feb, June). And you have to have your assessment completed within a certain time period prior to the next writing date. The exam is pencil paper and very different from NCLEX. Most provinces will grant a temporary license for a fee prior to having your official license. It takes at least 3 months or so to get your results by mail after writing the exam. There is also a lot written on this subject in this forum so you may find more information also by doing a search. But going to the college of registered nurses of ___________ website will give you a great starting place and a contact to get your questions answered. Nothing like getting it from the source since things are changing all the time.

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PCVICU and peds oncology.

There's a sticky on the home page for the Canadian Nurses forum with links to all the regulatory bodies in Canada. There's also one with a cross-country comparison of wages and benefits that might help with choosing where to go if you're not sure where that might be.
