New Grad Still No Job

Published

I'm a new grad from Arizona. I graduated on Dec 2014 with my BSN. I was scheduled to take my NCLEX on Feb but there was an error in my name and i wasn't allow to take it. I lost the money that I paid and 2 months fixing the issue. Then I scheduled and took my exam on June. Its been since then that I been struggling to get a job. I had applied to so many of them and I don't get nothing. I'm getting desperate and depressed. I feel like a failure specially when i realize all my classmates are already working and being successful. There is no day that goes by where i don't spent a good amount of time crying. I don't know what to do. I just want to work as a nurse but nobody gives me an opportunity. I been thinking to apply for an Sub-Acute rehab but don't know if it will be beneficial to me or just hurt my career. My ideal job is to work on WIS.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

Beggars cannot be choosers. You must take whatever you can get.

Subacute rehab RN position = RN pay + RN experience

Waiting for a hospital job = NO pay + NO experience

Take any job you think you can handle. The reason I say this is, some employers have unreasonable expectations of nursing staff. If you live in a big city, you may want to apply to smaller towns.

Smaller areas normally do not have a lot of nursing schools. So this gives more employment opportunities.

I made a spreadsheet of every hospital in my state and started applying to every single one. I quickly learned that the only positions available to a new grad are med/surg. You get experience under your belt, work towards some certifications (or at least get your ACLS and PALS) and then you can go anywhere. You might also look for externship programs, but the responsibilities/pt. load is decreased during the program.
