Hello, I have graduated since May this past year and passed my NCLEX since July and I still have no job. I had only one interview but did not got the job offer. I currently moved to Galveston and been applying to hospitals here and around the Houston area. Have not heard back from any of them and I desperately need a job soon before my loans repayment starts kicking in the next two months. Is there something I need to do in order to reach out a nurse recruiter or manger at the hospitals in order to get a job? I was thinking about volunteering at a clinic around here for the mean time until I get a job. Any advice on where else I can apply to or how to get an interview will be much appreciated. I really want to work but so upset that I am having so much trouble in getting a job

Have you looked into LTC or rehab facilities? I know there are many new grads having hard time finding jobs in hospitals. Many of my classmates found jobs in LTC and skilled nursing facilities. Some were able to get a hospital job but its like an hour away. Good luck and don't get discourage. Now and days it takes 6months or more to land a job!

you may have to do what i did. i wanted to work in a hospital, but everyone was wanting to hire nurses with experience. i had to start at a LTC/Rehab before landing my "dream/ideal" job. The job was out of state, so i moved myself away from everything i knew: family, friends, etc... just to start my job and get experience. Now, i was able to move back to my homestate after almost 2 yrs working and life is grand. good luck

Hold up.. it's only been 4 months! Girl (or Boy), you have time before you panic. Persevere. Some people who graduated in June in the past years before me didn't find anything until December or so of that year. If you can get a position in a location that will keep you employed temporarily while you are searching (bonus points if it is employment as an RN) then do it, even if it's temporary. If you can't find a free clinic or the likes where you can volunteer your services for free to gain experience.

I agree with Gigik3. Seems many newly graduated nurses are anticipating jobs getting shoved at them left & right....doesn't always happen that way (granted, sometimes it does but that's dependent on things such as medical experience, location, WHERE you are applying, & how picky you're being). I sure as s&&T didn't land my dream job yet, but I got a darn good one that I intend to keep until I can work my way to the dream of the ICU.
Don't get down on yourself, get out there & network. Go to the HR of the places you're applying for & make your presence known (not in an annoying way of course). & perhaps it's possible to get your loans deferred for awhile....

I too am a May grad, July licensed RN and still not job. I have heard this bit of advice a few times now, but am curious, who would you contact about volunteer work for experience and also networking? We don't have free clinics but there's a health department and a hospital... most places in our area if you are a RN you have to work to be let in. I had difficulty volunteering just to paint fingernails at our LTC because it was something my grandma liked but with her gone I wanted to keep up the nice step and they acted like they were worried I was going to spy on them or something....
