New grad in SICU

Published

Hey everyone I just received a new grad position in the SICU is there any advice anyone can give me thanks

Specializes in Trauma | Surgical ICU.

Depending on what type of SICU it would be.

Is it a busy unit? Trauma? What type of surgeries does the hospital do?

Best thing is to know basics and baselines. Normal values, basic neurological assessments, things like that.

Thanks for your response! What i can tell its fairly busy I'm just nervous because i have no experience what so ever

Go in with an open mind, get good rest, ask a ton of questions, help others when you have down time, read all of icufaqs.org, don't act cocky, listen to your preceptor, study outside of work, know your vasoactives, be on time and prepared, say thank you to those who help you and remember that you will have good days and bad... :D Good Luck!

Oh! and they know that you have no experience... they aren't expecting you to know what you are doing. They want you to do your best, critically think and give great care to the patients. You will be fine!

Thanks so kuch chip nurse!

ododi, congrats on the job. Wish i could land a new grad MICU/SICU position too. did you have related experience while in school? May i ask which region of the country are you in?

Thanks!! No i had no clinical experience whatsoever im really brand new
