New grad RN salary in Florida 2014

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hi all, just curious. I was finally offered a position as an OR/Recovery Room nurse at a cosmetic surgery center in south FL. The pay rate for a new grad RN is 20/hr. I have heard many comments about the low pay rate in FL, especially for new grads. Is this pay rate too low?

I got offered 23 .. Med surg floor

Specializes in Med-Surg, LTC, Psych, Addictions..

I wonder if panhandle area hospitals offer an incentive for working per diem and night shift. I figure I'll make a little less base rate in Fl than WA, but I don't want to give up too much.

South Fl....I was just hired in a hospital for a peds specialty unit on nights. The pay is a little over $30, which includes the night differential 😊

Specializes in ICU.

Not much. I interviewed at one in the panhandle that wanted to offer me $20.50/hr with a year of experience and the night diff was either $2.50 or $2.75, I can't remember. The night/weekend diffs might bring you up to around $25/hr if you are lucky.

How much do RNs in Seattle, WA make?

Specializes in Med-Surg, LTC, Psych, Addictions..

I'm not in Seattle, but about 18 miles away.

Anyway, my hospital base starts about $28. I get 15% for working per diem, another $3.50 or so for NOCs, and another $3.00 or so for weekends.

Nurse:Patient ratios are good, and so is morale.

Thank you for your reply! That's encouraging to hear. I'm from Vancouver, BC but now live in South FL. I have one year to leave this place and we might be moving to WA where my husband is from. If you can take a travel job to Florida do so, but DO NOT willingly move here because this place will make you want to leave nursing all together.

Wow! I make 22.80 an hour as an LPN.
