  1. As a new nurse on a dementia unit, I had a resident tell me "you don't know your a** from your elbow" lol. In hindsight I agree with her!
  2. I haven't read through all the comments so I'm not sure if this word has been mentioned. It silently drives me crazy when people mispronounce "peripheral" by saying "per-ri-fe-al".
  3. South Fl....I was just hired in a hospital for a peds specialty unit on nights. The pay is a little over $30, which includes the night differential 😊
  4. Hello everyone! I was wondering how to go about applying for the Kendall regional and Aventura nurse residency? I've already looked on the website and don't see a posting, am I missing something? Thanks in advance!
  5. When I worked in LTC, there was no policy in place to notify staff of a patients death on their days off. However, I would sometimes find out from other staff that I kept in contact with outside of work. With that said, when I came back to work from days off I always do my rounds first. Then I would check the 24 hour report from the days I was off to see what has been going on. We used a 24 hour report to relay important happenings from each shift for ex: new admits, new orders, start of ABTs, hospital transfers, patient deaths, etc. So, if I didn't already know about a patient dying before the start of my shift, then I would/should definitely find out when I check the 24 hours. The nurse should remove meds from the cart after a patient passes away but sometimes that happens for whatever reason, maybe she was really busy or not :-). After I do my rounds and notice a patient was not there, I always asked the nurse I was relieving. They should be able to tell you most of the time. Hope that helps!!!
  6. Ok so now i'm getting nervous too. I was just accepted into eli whitney on wednesday and I just turned in my financial aid info friday, which was the deadline date so I haven't heard anything yet. I'm pretty sure I will get the max pell grant, so even if I do there's a chance I will still have to pay out of my pocket? If that is the case I don't know what i'm going to do!
  7. Hello everybody...I'm happy to say that I was called off the waiting list today for Eli Whitney and I was asked did I still want to be in the program!!!:yeah:So I'm in the program starting 2008, I'm so nervous, excited, and happy! Is there any one else starting at eli whitney??
  8. well my other choice was st. vincent's but I didn't get into the program...but maybe that was for the best because I would have to travel from new haven to bridgeport everyday and I don't have my own transportation yet. So I was counting on getting into eli whitney, and i'm still hoping. I have been looking into stone academy and lincoln tech as back up. I went to stone academys info session yesterday and their lpn cost 22,000:eek:. I cannot bring myself to pay that not for lpn, but I am getting a little desperate. Anyway I'm still hoping that eli whitney comes through!
  9. Hello everyone, my name is Ashley. I was wondering if anybody on here applied to eli whitney and were accepted or not accepted. I wasn't accepted but was put on a waiting list, and i'm number 7 or 8 . I'm really hoping that I can get in there or somewhere, but for that to happen some people will have to decline the program.
