New grad RN in Las Vegas

I graduated with my BSN from UNLV on April 24th of this year and am wondering if anyone has information on ED positions for new graduates.

My fourth level preceptorship (144+ hours of clincal) was in the ED at MountainView Hospital. My experience in their ED was seriously one of the most exciting, challenging, and rewarding times of my adult life. I learned so much and became very efficient with prioritization and time management as it applies to emergency department nursing. I had always been interested in ED nursing but I had no clue how much I would fall in love with it!

I truly excelled and left the unit highly recommended by the staff. I had been offered a position in Mountainview for a May 1st start date new grad program for their ED but unfortunately could not schedule my NCLEX in time due to UNLV releasing their affidavit of graduation about 3 days before the start date.

Since then I had been waiting for another ED new grad program to pop up around the Las Vegas area but had yet to find one come September of this year. I eventually accepted a position in Mountainview's StaRN new grad program but they were only filling med-surg positions. Fortunately, I was strategically placed in the unit where most medsurg RNs are pulled for ED spots within 6 months - 1 year if they wanted). So, I spent the last 6 weeks in mon-fri 8-5 intensive didactic and simulation training. Unfortunately this week, we were informed that all of the MountainView hires would be transferred to Sunrise medsurg (which is so depressing because I loved Mountainview !!). I was then informed by Sunrise that I would have to serve a minimum of 2 years on a medsurg unit before they would even consider upgrading me to ED. We were given the option to opt out of the contract since it was initially for a different hospital and after careful consideration and reflecting on my needs and abilities I have decided to opt out and persistently seek out ED positions that are willing to hire and train a fast-learning, eager new graduate RN.

Sorry for the long story but I felt it needed some back story! Since graduation I have been working as a medial scribe for a busy surgical practice.

I do not know what to say, new grad ed positions are hard to come by,it sounds like our have the resources to wait for the right position good luck.

I've seen postings for Sunrise StaRN ED for end of Nov start date so I'm not sure why they couldn't have put you in that group but otherwise it is VERY difficult to get a new RN job here in Vegas. I had to take a job in a Transitional/Short-Term Rehab just to get working...my place is hiring if you want to get experience...pay is pretty good for a new RN as well and we have a low census at this point so it's a good learning environment.
