New grad RN job disaster

Published

Hello everyone,

so I was recently hired (4 months ago at the end of the month) and I was so eager to get my first RN job that I accepted without doing much research into this practice. My boss in the recent months, mainly past two, has been emotionally and verbally abusive. Not only is that an issue, one of our nurses (we were previously 4) has left and now she has us covering each other's positions because she doesn't want to hire another nurse. When she gets mad she cuts our pay, and recently has asked us to start doing administrative work. Which is fine because it has to be done by a nurse, however the previous nurse is 2 years late on important paper work and they have asked us to fabricate information. When I refuse, my employer treats me horribly. I am going to quit soon but I'm afraid I will have difficulty obtaining another position.

What do I do when I'm interviewing and they ask me why I left?

Report this. You can't make stuff up, you can't even prove that 2 years ago you were even employed by them--cause you were not. And any surveyor would notice this--you are not responsible for shoddy practices that happened before you.

Fraud will reflect on your license and your ability to work as a nurse again. Especially if this all involves medicare or other insurances.

Bullying you into some sort of compliance is a huge red flag. Run. If you can't run today, please get and maintain throughout your career. If you do have malpractice insurance, call them.

If this is a facility that accepts Medicare or Medicaid you can report illegal billing/documentation to HCFA/government and be covered by whistleblower laws and maybe even receive compensation for a valid tip. Leave now
