Hi all,
I'm wondering if a new grad program salary is comparable to that of a first year nurse. I live in Melbourne and starting salaries (from what I looked at) don't seem that great to begin. So it makes me nervous if a new grad salary was even lower. Please let me know if you have any experience with a new grad program.
Also how is it different to being a new nurse and having a preceptor showing you around. Is a new grad program more thorough? Any pros and cons are appreciated. Thanks!

You start on a level 1 salary (or equivelant depending on your state)
Remember this is only the base rate, you get shift loaded for afternoons, nights, and weekends so your take home salary is often higher

Just graduated in nz 2weeks ago, still awaiting results of our registration exam. But didn't get offered a job in the new grad programme. Is it any easy to get new grad jobs in oz? Or do they even want nz new grads? Thanks!
Hello
graduate programs are offered:
firstly, to nursing graduates from that state
then if all places are not filled they will offer to nursing graduates from others Australian states + NZ
basically in all Australian states there is a glut of new graduates . I can't speak for the other states but in WA only about 50% of grads for programs . Some have managed to secure level 1 RN positions, others are working in ages care, GP, clinics etc, others have still not yet got employment
This is very helpful! I was hoping it might be the same! Thanks
