Hello, I am a new grad nurse with no prior nursing experience. I just got my license back in August of this year. I have been applying for new grad programs but they all seem to pick other people which makes sense they most likely have more experience than I do.
At times I feel so discouraged because I feel like nobody will ever give me a chance. Is anyone feeling the same? any recommendations ?
I have thought about volunteering.

Hello, which state are you looking for work in? I just graduated too and will be applying to new grad programs and I’m nervous about not being able to find a job.

I’m sorry to hear that! What are they looking at when considering applicants? GPA, grades? I’m just wondering why it is so difficult for you?

Ahh I see! I just graduated with my BSN. I’m hearing that many hospitals prefer BSN now so maybe that is why you are having a hard time? So you just went straight into BSN after finishing ADN?

yes thats correct, but some hospitals are okay with it as long as you're working on it. but experience is a big deal for new grad programs.
yes I went right back to school to work on my BSN

What do you mean? New grad programs actually require that you have no previous experience; at least the ones I’ve looked at. The whole point of a new grad program is to start working right after you graduate and get you oriented to nursing, so how is anybody expected to have experience fresh out of school?

nope thats not the case most of the time, thats why I don't understand why they are called new grad programs. I have 0 experience and they always say they went for somebody more qualified than me. All of the ones I have applied for and these are big hospitals want at least 1 year of previous experience. People who were LPNS or CNA or LVNS fit perfectly for this. But I wish you luck, your BSN will help you a lot !

Oh wow that makes no sense to me. I’m so sorry you’re having a hard time! Some hospitals like Cedars Sinai require that you have no previous experience since it’s a program for new grads only. So weird! Well nonetheless, don’t give up! Keep trying!
