Hey everyone
Im new to allnurses.com and thank you for reading! I have just started on an ortho/ rehab/ surgical floor at a Childrens Hospital (my second day on the floor is tomorrow!). I would love any words of wisdom! I feel a little overwhelmed and anxious. I am so greatful and happy to be where I am but believe its a healthy nervuosness.
Thanks for you thoughts

Good luck girlfriend and you will get "it". My mind is drawing a blank but there are resources specific to orthopedics (NAOM?) They had an ortho book that is great, go to conferences, ask for help. DO you have a Clinical Nurse Specialist at your hospital? Pick his/her brains...they are invaluable and love to teach. Be friendly with the staff....brownies, fruits, thank you cards for exceptional help or even a note to nurse manager on those who help you extra. Even nurses like recognition and it will help them when it comes time for their evaluations. Experience counts for a lot so don't be afraid to use your resources and ask the nurses with the experience. Seek out others to give you a chance...when it isn't your patient. PM me for specific questions...I too am at an peds ortho speciality hospital working as a nurse education/instructor.
