New Grad in the OR

Hey everyone! I'm a new grad looking to get into the OR right away and was wondering if you had any tips. I understand it is difficult as a new grad to get into this speciality right off the bat, but I know it's my true passion and will do anything to get in. Besides residencies and OR training programs, are there any other ways to get in? I heard maybe shooting for pre or post op for a year or two could be a loop hole in to the OR, but would love to hear any recommendations.

Just commenting on this to be in the loop because I also want to get in the OR right out of college, with intentions of staying there until I retire. Honestly probly the only specialty for me.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one haha. I'm going to try to get into residencies for OR nursing, but I've heard they are very competitive so I'm wondering if there's anything else. Do you know of anything?

Yeah that's what I'm planning on doing too. The only thing I feel is gonna help me get in is that right now I have a job in the PACU as a PCT and the PACU manager (who knows I want to go to the OR) is very good friends with the OR manager and I feel would help me get a job there after school. Unless you have one already, maybe try to get a job around the OR or PACU area. It's all about who you know!

I think you'll find some good information over in the OR forum. Be sure to check out ask an OR nurse.
