New Grad opportunities

Published

Hi all!

I'm graduating in May from Arizona with my BSN and I'm looking to move to Colorado. I was wondering if anyone had any advice when it comes to new grad programs in Colorado? I'm specifically interested in Children's Hospital Colorado. Does anyone know how many positions they fill? I have family in Denver but I'm really interested in any areas around Colorado. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Sorry, not sure how many positions they have. I would guess around 30?

Other facilities would be Denver Health and University of Colorado Health

Children's as well as those mentioned by klone are good programs, but historically to get into the new grad programs you have to work as a CNA while in school.

Not always true, but it helps. :)

Children's is super hard to get in, but you can always try. They will want to look at your CNA experience, where you did your clinical (hospital peds helps), how you did in nursing school, volunteer experience (again, any experience working with kids helps). Good luck. It may take you 6-9 months to find a job as a new grad in Denver, but some people are lucky and maybe you are one of the lucky ones.

As an HR rep told me, "it is brutally competitive here for new grads." It was hard to even get a CNA job!

It IS brutally hard! I know of only one person who got on at Children's and she worked there as a PCA for 4 years while in school. Same with University. Actually 4 of my classmates worked there and only one got into the new grad program.

Swedish seems like the most friendly to new grads, but an online application there gets trashed without anyone ever seeing it. 14 or 15 of my classmates have been hired there, but only after taking their application into a NM. A few got on at other hca hospitals the same way.
