Hi. I was frustrated as well after graduation from RPN in 2013 when I couldn't even land a job in the GTA. I had been working for agencies as PSW, non-nursing job, & volunteering. I decided to do the bridging and eventually met colleagues and was referred to a RPN job in a Retirement Home in Hamilton. I relocated while doing my schooling. This was my first RPN job after 3years of not in the workforce. Eventually, I got a hospital job while on my last year of BScN - just because I submitted my resume to the manager I did clinical from.
Looking back, I wish I wasn't that picky since my RPN consolidation was in a rehab but I didn't want it. I wish I toughened it up and made some connections and consulted my colleagues if they were hiring.
St Josephs Hamilton is big on psych. There are also dementia units at LTCs.
I think you should pursue what you're passionate in and not give up. Continue to apply and it if you think it's a good idea to gain more certifications to make you stand out as an applicant then you should do that as well. Keep applying, and maybe reach out to those jobs that didn't offer you a position and ask them what you could do to improve in the future.

Hey everyone! I recently graduated last year as an RPN ! In Toronto. Im honestly into mental health and don't want to really work anywhere else, but I have applied to so many hospitals and got two interviews but never got the job! Im so sad that no one wants to hire me, I'm not sure what to do. Should I go back to school for the mental health certificate cause it looks weird that I have been registered as a nurse but have not had any RPN jobs in the past 4 months. I'm not sure if its just me and I should give up on mental health and just go for a LTC position since they are in so much need right now.
