New Grad No Job- extremely depressed.

I know there are other topics on here about this- I've read them all. I'm feeling so so depressed lately. I graduated in October 2011 with my BSN and passed my NCLEX in November.

I started applying for jobs in August, hoping to have one set up when I graduated- with no luck. But I kept high spirits knowing that that would have only been ideal for that to happen and I wasn't really expecting it. So October I started applying again once I graduated (Cum Laude, in Honor Society, etc. etc.). Ok, no call backs, but maybe it's because I didn't pass my NCLEX yet. So, I passed my NCLEX- tried again. This time I applied everywhere and I mean EVERYWHERE within a 2 HOUR drive of Chicago (Aurora, Joliet, you name it). Ok. Maybe no call backs because I don't have my license number yet from Illinois. SO I got my license number. applied everywhere again!! and more! even 'unwanted' jobs- abortion clinics, drug rehabs, etc. Still no calls.

I am so so depressed. I am questioning why I got my degree and license. My student loans will be coming soon and me working as a waitress currently will definitely not cut it. Actually it already isn't enough- I have to ask my parents for help with my bills this month. I live with my boyfriend and I'm asking him to relocate with me to central/southern Illinois because maybe I could find a job there, but he says he can't. So I would have to be alone and move somewhere I would absolutely hate.

I am now to the point of applying for irrelevant jobs to nursing- data entry, secretary, receptionist, customer service, and on. (With no luck in that either!!) I need a full time job.

So, in conclusion. Any advice? I am so beyond depressed I can't even eat or sleep.

That's very odd, I'm on the website now. Try back...Barnes-Jewish Hospital. It's the 11th hospital in the country too, so the experience can take you places after you get a year.

You do NOT have to have taken the NCLEX. In St. Louis, you can even work as a "Graduate Nurse" and you have up to 90 days to take the NCLEX...like I said, I don't want to stay in St. Louis, but all these things are making it hard not too as a new grad.

And yeah, ND would be awful haha. St. Louis is too cold for me!

You can definitely apply. Good luck!

I have no idea what the weather is in St. Louis. I was thinking it was kind of in the south. Heck even CA is too cold for me. I am really going to miss this island.

I tried Barnes-Jewish Hospital | St. Louis, MO | Specialists | Surgeons | National Leaders in Medicine - Barnes-Jewish Hospital and I get the same error message of "This webpage is not available" on Chrome and "The connection was reset" on Firefox.

Very strange!

THat was weird. I didn't type out the whole blue link. I copy and pasted barnesjewish dot org but as a web site and the dot was actually a dot and no spaces. Anyway even when I click on that link it still gives me error messages in both browsers.

I'll try St. Louis too! I am down for anything. I've applied to Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana, and the ENTIRE state of Illinois, so Missouri can be next I guess! This is out of control. I've applied to over 500 jobs now. Gotten 4 interviews. Zero job offers. It's SO UNBELIEVABLY hard to keep trying. I feel so discouraged and hopeless, I cried the whole day yesterday after I still haven't gotten a call back from either of my job interviews from last week. I keep having friends and family and so on giving me "leads" that go no where. I am sick of getting my hopes up every time my phone rings just to get disappointed. ugh! so over it!

This is weird I have been trying to get on the web site for two days. I tried barnesjewish dot org and bjc dot org and I get error messages no matter what browser I use. Anyone else with this problem?

I had my roommate try both web sites and she also got error messages for both and the computer at school also gave me error messages. I don't know what I am doing wrong??

Same thing. I still get "[h=1]This webpage is not available"[/h]

I have tried 3 computers and it is the same thing.

Well it works through Safari.

Yep same thing. It says "Safari can't open the page."

I put a call into tech support because I have been trying since the 8th.

This is very weird. I give up. Tech support called me back within 15 minutes and even he couldn't help me. He had no answers as why it didn't work. He told me if there was a block it would come from marketing and I would have to speak to them.

I give up.

I'm glad i'm not the only one struggling to find a job as a new grad. I've had about 4 phone interviews for new grad positions but not call back from any of them. I'm just going to be a private duty nurse for awhile to get some experience. Maybe the hospital scene isn't for me just yet. Does anyone know of any good agency for private duty nurses in Spokane? Good luck to everyone out there searching for a job as a new grad RN.

Specializes in med/surg tele, postpartum, mother baby.

Definitely look further than two hours from home. I graduated June 2010 and just started working Oct 2011, had to move from CA to central TX. If you can move, do it... get your experience and then if you aren't happy where you are then go back home. I also heard that N Dakota is hiring alot of new nurses, check that out too.
