New Grad in Neuro ICU

Hello all! I've landed my first job in the Neuro ICU. I am beyond thrilled but scared at the same time. It's an odd feeling

I was hired on in my hospitals new RN program, which is awesome. I'll have 12-14 weeks of orientation with a preceptor

Any words of advice?

Rubberduckie, huge congrats!

We are ALL scared, so that's normal!

Being hired into a new grad program is a huge plus, you will be in orientation with other new grads, and my first piece of advise is to network with some of them and form a support group. I did that (even though it was more difficult not being in a residency program) and it is a true lifesaver! Just to have others in the same boat to talk to when things get rough is the best thing I could have done. We call and text each other and try to meet once a week.

The only other advise is to ask questions if you aren't sure. The nurses will welcome your questions and it is safer for patients. Never guess at anything.

You will do great!

I also began my nursing career in a Neuro-Trauma ICU..... and LOVED IT!! I've worked in all types of ICU settings since then, but Neuro is my favorite.

Wishing you the best of luck on your new job.
