a new grad needs advice

Published

ok...I applied for a job in a new grad program at hospital A - it is a multi facility hospital system, with the main hospital (nicknamed the mother ship) as a magnet facility. I was offered a new grad position. While waiting I continued to interview just in case. I also worked as an aide in a step down unit in hospital A's system. Hospital A is 15 minutes away and pays better.

I was then offered a new grad position at hospital B- a small rural community single hospital - I was promised a transfer (after orientation) to the speciality unit I was looking for. Pay was less and it is a 40 mile commute, but again was offered a transfer after med/surge orientation.

so I wound up turning down hospital A for hospital B.

so you know where this is going right.....?

Hospital B has since told me that I won't "transfer" that I can "apply" for the specialty unit, AND its part time hours (20 per week but there is always shifts to sign up for). However my benefits are based on 20 hours per week (and are 4x as much)...

so now I deeply regret this decision - I'm very unhappy with the orientation program, the commute and the entire situation...

it also seems as though I've been blacklisted from hospital A's system as I've been reapplying there and am not getting interviews....

so where do I go from here? I've emailed my old manager (where I was an aide) since she has 7 positions opening up (unit expansion) - I've basically thrown myself at her mercy for an interview....

sigh...moral of the story - sometimes the gut is wrong!

Wow. I'm sorry. I'm also a new grad and currently job searching so I doubt I can help much. I really just wanted to say that it sounds like hospital B misrepresented what you would have and that sucks. Please keep applying with A and hope for the best. Again, I'm sorry.

That is very unfortunate. I remember hearing how some hospitals don't like to transfer new nurses with under a year experience. That being said, If I were you I would just be honest with that manager connection you have, telling her you regret choosing B hospital, and hope for the best.
