Hello :)

I am a New Grad moving to Philadelphia. I just passed boards and was wondering if anyone new of any hospitals who are currently hiring New Grads. I heard the job market in Philly is bad for new grads and I'm getting worried :uhoh3:

Specializes in HIV, Transplant.

I went to school in Philadelphia and many of my classmates were able to find jobs after graduating this past May but they also worked as externs during school so that helped. There's a lot of teaching hospitals in Philly so I'd think they would be more willing to train but first priority would probably go to those who worked there during school. Try Einstein, Jefferson, UPenn, also CHOP and St. Christopher's which are both children's hospitals. Also try looking into the Main Line health system. Good luck!

I am a new grad in Philadelphia and have found that many of the large teaching hospitals are not hiring very many new grads. Like the previous poster said, the new grads that do get the jobs in the majors were nurse externs there first. unless that new grad . I was able to find a job in a smaller community hospital in the area, but I feel like I lucked out . . .

The good thing about Philadelphia is that there are a number of hospitals in the city as well as across the river in New Jersey. Delaware is also accessible, so lots of options to try!

Hope this helps! Good luck!

i'm a new grad from philly area as well... i can say forsure since i talked to both UPENN and Mainline Health, you must apply for their "new grad" programs, they will start taking applications again this fall for winter start date. You have to have at least a 3.0 GPA and most the time you don't get it unless you had an externship with them. Doesn't mean don't try! When i talked to them at State conference she said still apply, regardless. i have been applying everywhere! still no call backs, but plan on applying to the new grad programs (i missed the summer start, the applications were due in feb). also try the NJ, and DE hospitals. call there HR departments and ask what they require new grads to submit with their resumes, some have a list, some just tell you to apply to the new grad program. you might have better luck now that its off season for new grads, Good luck!
