i have lived in baytown for 2 years, and have not heard of this. i am starting the adn program at lee college this fall and one of the things previous students say is to take your nclex asap, so that you can start work quickly. and i know that lee only accepts for the program once a year. have you checked in surrounding areas like clear lake, and pasadena? i actually have heard that it is preferable to working in the city of houston for reasons such as price of parking, and commuting and traffic. good luck! keep me posted!
I second that!!! DO not work at Baytown Methodist. Had a very close coworker of my husband that was taken there. They told him that he was suffering from West Nile and shipped him downtown. When he got to downtown he was suffering from Diabetic Coma. The family went through so many emotions with the West Nile thing and then to be shipped somewhere else and be told that it was not even that. ON top of that -- My husband had hurt his knee getting out of his truck one morning. By the time I got home from work he couldnt move is knee and it had swollen up. Took him to that ER (they did MRI) and they told us that it was - just sprained. Gave him pain meds and crutches and sent him home. After three days of pain and still swollen, we went to hosp. downtown (took the MRI readings that we had from Baytown) and they looked at it and asked when he wanted his surgery bc he had a torn ligament.
Not a good hospital!!!!!!!
Look at hospitals downtown or Humble or even Pasadena...
Wow, thank you all for your information! I will steer clear of San Jacinto Methodist in Baytown! Those are some terrible stories! I'm looking into Bayshore Medical and St. Lukes. Let me know if there are some other hospitals I'm missing within an hour drive of Baytown! I've heard that the driving is terrible in Houston! So excited to be moving down there. I leave in a week! I just passed my NCLEX this week- Yeah!!!!! I am now a RN.
Thank you for ALL the advice!!!!!!!! Bluekitty

Hi there, I'm moving to Baytown in 2.5 weeks from Iowa!!! I'm really excited! I'm a new RN- just passed boards, and I've researched many hospitals in the Houston area. Unfortunately for me, my nursing program had a management class from may to june, so we didn't graduate until the end of June. I noticed that some hospitals only hire new grads in June or January. I'm hoping to have a job by September, can't wait till January for new grad programs!! Does anyone know of hospitals that are new grad friendly, that would hire a new grad straight out as an RN? In Iowa they just hire new grads as RN's, there are no special programs- just regular orientation.
Another question- I love the ER, having completed my preceptorship in a trauma II center, and would like to start out working ER. Is this impossible? I have noticed that many job postings require at least 1 year of experience in almost all areas of a hospital. What area can I get into to get this experience? Should I focus on med-surg?
I thank you all in advance for replying and helping me out!
