New grad moving to Baytown
Wow, thank you all for your information! I will steer clear of San Jacinto Methodist in Baytown! Those are some terrible stories! I'm looking into Bayshore Medical and St. Lukes. Let me know if there are some other hospitals I'm missing within an hour drive of Baytown! I've heard that the driving is terrible in Houston! So excited to be moving down there. I leave in a week! I just passed my NCLEX this week- Yeah!!!!! I am now a RN. Thank you for ALL the advice!!!!!!!! Bluekitty

choosing a specialty and personality type?
This is really cool! I'm an ENFJ and I want to go into ER/Trauma nursing. For those who want a link to the site that explains nursing specialties and personality type- this is a good one: http://www.studentbmj.com/search/pdf/05/03/sbmj108.pdf

New grad
Hi, I was wondering how some of you got started in your careers as an RN? How did you work your way into the ER? I'm a new grad and I loved my preceptorship in the ER. I am addicted! Hospitals where I am moving to do not hire new grads in their ERs, understandably, it is an intense environment for a new nurse. What areas should I focus on working in to gain experience for the ER? Thanks for your help!!

New grad moving to Baytown
Hi there, I'm moving to Baytown in 2.5 weeks from Iowa!!! I'm really excited! I'm a new RN- just passed boards, and I've researched many hospitals in the Houston area. Unfortunately for me, my nursing program had a management class from may to june, so we didn't graduate until the end of June. I noticed that some hospitals only hire new grads in June or January. I'm hoping to have a job by September, can't wait till January for new grad programs!! Does anyone know of hospitals that are new grad friendly, that would hire a new grad straight out as an RN? In Iowa they just hire new grads as RN's, there are no special programs- just regular orientation. Another question- I love the ER, having completed my preceptorship in a trauma II center, and would like to start out working ER. Is this impossible? I have noticed that many job postings require at least 1 year of experience in almost all areas of a hospital. What area can I get into to get this experience? Should I focus on med-surg? I thank you all in advance for replying and helping me out!
