I’m a new grad working in a level II trauma center and working in ED observation. Cross training in the ED but horrible preceptors and no learning opportunities. I have been a nurse for 8 months and truly want to be in the er. I interviewed with two other ER’s and leaning towards one. Here is the catch, they still consider me a new grad and will only offer new grad pay which is less than what I am making now as far as base pay. They offer critical care pay and night diff but while I’m on orientation I only get the base pay.
do I accept the pay decrease for my happiness during orientation or stay where I am unhappy? Are there any tips on negotiating pay for 8 months as a nurse or am I stuck with what they are offering me ?

As a brand new grad, only speaking of what I think I would do. First consider how much of a pay difference it would be and if you can personally take the hit financially. Also consider that it sounds temporary. Secondly, do you think you WILL get the opportunity to be in the ED where you are with adequate training, etc. You are new in your career so changes now seem easier now than they will in a few years, especially if you still haven't gotten the training and skills you need. It sounds like the switch would be a good thing to me.
