hello everyone! i recently graduated from nursing school with my bsn and i am currently studying for the nclex. i was just wondering if anyone out there has some tips for landing an rn job here in jacksonville, fl? whether it be from contacting nurse managers or what have you. i would like to find a job asap -- i fear that i won't be able to find one as the summer progresses
the hospital i am most inclined to work at is st. vincent's! i would love to get hired there, any nurses out there that are currently employed there are looking to be employed there have any tips?
thanks ya'll

Honestly the only way you will get a job is to apply to a new grad program or speak directly with a manager. At least you have your BSN so you have a little leverage but lately I just don't see new grads get hired unless they have an inside contact. I wouldn't limit myself to the hospitals either. Home health and LTC are also options. I hope you find something soon!

The only reason I got an interview for St. V's as a new grad was because I worked at Publix. They have a lot of techs (I was competing against 4 for the spot) that are nursing students there. Shands just did a new grad program, I haven't heard if they are going to do another one any time soon. I know Specialty hires new grads. Tough hospital, but good experience.

Some of my classmates got their jobs in a hospital by being PCTs during NS. Others went the home health route...got some experience under their belt and then went to the hospital. I am going to start soon at a Health and Rehab facility (one wing is LTC, the rest is acute/subacute care where they are now putting their emphasis)...this place hires only RNs because of the direction they wish to head.
Good Luck to you....it is possible to get jobs in Jax. All of my classmates who have passed the NCLEX are currently employed. (One insecure classmate has YET to take the NCLEX....but everyone else has already passed.)
BTW, the starting pay for the place I am going to work at is $23 for days (which has no openings right now) and $24 for 3 - 11 shift.
