new grad looking for a job

Published

Hello

I just passed my NCLEX and now i'm looking for my first nursing job. :chair: Most of the employers are looking for nurses who have experience so how can i go about finding a job? What can i put in my resume to make it more appealing to them? Is it a good idea to say in the job interview that i just passed my boards and that i dont have any experience?

CONGRATS ON NCLEX!!!!

Where do you live??!! In my area new nurses are recruited before they even finish nursing school!!! I dont know what you should put in your resume, but in your interview I would be sure to tell them you are new. I would think you would rather work at a hospital that knows you are new and is willing to give you the extra time and orientation you are going to need to become an excellent nurse, as opposed to someplace else that is going to think you know what you are doing. (I hope you dont think this sounds harsh, I have only been an RN since last Dec and it is because of a great orientation that I feel I know what I am doing)

Congrats Graduate nurse! :balloons: I know it can feel disheartening to see those ads that want experienced nurses. But everyone is a new grad at some point. My first med/surg job was one of those ads. They wanted "experienced nurses only." I applied anyway, and they agreed to interview & hire me. I do see a lot of ads that welcome new grads, so keep your eyes open for those too. But you may also consider applying for the "experienced only" ads if you can't find anything else. Let them know you are a new grad, but play up your strengths. I think enthusiasm, willingness to learn, being a team player, and all that can go a long ways. The experience comes with time. Good luck to you!
