I am still searching for the strength to move on. I was called in the office yesterday and given the pink slip. I am a new grad, just graduated in May and passed nclex a couple months later and got my first job on a med surg floor.. I started work the end of July and I was on orientation and had three preceptors. The educator dilligently came around and ask me questions about my pts. Basically this lady just hammered on things I told her I needed to look up. She nailed me on things I failed to answered correctly plus exaggerated . And guess what she had it all documented, correct me if i am wrong, am i suppose to answer all her questions correctly? DO all nurses truly and honestly know qthing about their pts? it was the completion of my orientation and they pulled me and said byebye!! Besides, My preceptor just told me how great I was doing the other day.

If you are really agood nurse you will continue to learn. There is no way you could retain in your head all the diseases, disorders, medications about your patients I think youve been treated unfairly. You will always be learning new thingsI cant believe they really didnt give you a chance.Sorry about thier loss!!Hang in there,Im sure youll find a much better place to work.

Sorry to hear about your experience...but just look at it exactly as that...an experience...look at it as a character building experience and move on...Your next job may be better suited for you...And no...a new grad is not expected to know everything...God knows I sure don't...

Specializes in Med/Surg, Geri, Ortho, Telemetry, Psych.

I am so sorry for you to have to go through this. Especially with your first job. It sounds like it was a bad supervisor, not your fault. Try to remember that. You will be better off away from a supervisor like that. Please don't give up. You will find your place at another facility. It will work out. Good luck to you. Hugs and kisses.:smokin:
