New Grad jobs? Texas

Published

Hey guys,

I am currently a Canadian trained new grad who has written and passed the NCLEX. At this moment in time I am working towards receiving a temporary license for the state of Texas and once I have that I plan on applying for jobs down there and working while I wait the X amount of days to get a full license.

The job market for nurses in my current province is saturated and many of the openings have experience requirements of 3-5+ years- so it has been difficult for myself, as a new grad to work towards a getting a job in this environment.

My question is, how does the job market look for new graduate nurses in Texas? Are there opportunities? I am open to working just about anywhere so I can gain experience and work my way up.

Thanks in advance,

North Texas is saturated, but experiencing huge growth. It would be a good spot.

Thanks for the response. I will definitely look into the North Texas area.

Hi there,

I admire your 'can do' attitude toward launching your nursing career.

There is a wide variation in the job climate for new grads in Texas - driven by geographic area. In the larger metro areas, most hospital systems are only hiring BSN grads and have adopted a much more structured process via their formal 'transition to practice' (residency) programs. Most of these programs are only conducted twice a year & they fill up very fast with students who did clinical practicums in their facilities. Contact these organizations to get detailed information on residency application deadlines. OTOH, smaller metro areas are still receptive/welcoming to ADN grads & have more flexible hiring processes.

Wishing you the best of luck on your career goals.
