New grad jobs in NYC, should I wait?

Published

Recently had a phone interview for NYU and the recruiter said to check back in November if no one reaches out since positions are scare these days. At my current hospital in the city they axed their summer/fall new grad residency due to a hiring freeze (though if I stayed I would probably start around April). My resume is good and I know people who got into NYP with tbh worse resumes b/c of a contact. Otherwise I've applied to pretty much every new grad position in a hospital in Manhattan/Brooklyn. I don't mind starting in dec/jan as long as I have an offer. Btw I graduated in May, but got my RN license in early September.

I'm getting my Jersey license by the end of the month and wasn't sure if I should wait another month to see if NYU works out or should I just cut my losses and apply out of state. Additionally if anyone has any tips to get into literally any hospital in manhattan/brooklyn feel free to share lol.

I'm in a similar boat as you. I've started to apply to NJ and CT hospitals as there is just a glut of folks here in NYC. I really don't want to end up in LTC so I'm willing to commute for any decent acute care position.

hey! kinda in the same boat as you. i had a phone call with a recruiter earlier this week with NYU and they said to follow up at the end of next week if I don't hear back from them. Same day I received an email to schedule an in-person! maybe i can update you once i have the interview?

Specializes in Oncology.

@ newgrad_RN19 is the in-person interview with the recruiter or hiring manager? Also, do you mind sharing what position/unit it's for? Thanks!

Same situation here. Would willing to look further and longer than end up in LTC. You're not alone and we'll be fine

BTW, NY license takes longer so plan ahead.
