Hi guys,
So it has been 8 months since graduation and 6 months since i received my RN license and I am still job searching. I have applied to jobs online at hospitals, but haven't gotten any replies. Admittedly, one interview did not go well during the summer (perhaps I was not competitive enough in my interview) and I did turn down a potential offer in November bc I had already planned to be out of the country (my finance and I finally got married overseas where we have lots of family). Anyone have any tips on how to make an application stand out or tips to get that interview? I had called HR in the past before, but there really is not much they have said except that my application is under review and I'd be contacted if chosen. Another recruiter told me no new openings were available now, but to check back later. Job searching in the DC and Va. area has been hard, and I am really hoping to start working now that I've got the marriage done and family visits out of the way.

The only thing I can say is to keep applying and start showing up in person. Turning down a job in this economy is not advised...but I understand about your wedding so I don't blame you. Look for preceptorships and any job you can find. Be persistent. Good luck.

I'm in a similar situation graduated 8 months ago got license 4 moths ago. Had one interview which I didn't get and haven't heard from anyone else yet. It's especially frustrating when I continue to hear of fellow graduates getting jobs.

Are you ADN or BSN?Have you tried out of state?Have you tried clinics, home health, nursing homes , etc?I know these are kind of cliche questions! Also what are you doing with the time off? Are you working somewhere? Virtually all work can translate over to help in health care, depending on how you market it. Eg: restaurant server- customer service, babysitter- pediatrics, CNA- healthcare experience. Also if you are an ADN are you working on your bachelors? The job market is BRUTAL Persevere and keep trying and keep plugging away.

I agree with showing up in person! Anyone can call to follow up, but I think it shows effort to drive there. I brought up the fact that the new grad job market is discouraging and asked if the HR rep would glance at my resume/CL and offer any suggestions. It gave them a reason to look over my resume in front of me and get some constructive criticism. On more than one occasion, they said they'd hand deliver my resume to the hiring manager. Worth a try!

OMG I have filled out 20 applications, and had 2 interview both said they dont like to hire new grads because it take so long to train them.I never heard from either one of them,I cant believe everyone wants someone with experience but no one wants to give it to them.I talked to a few of my classmates and it seems as if they all knew someone so they didnt have a problem getting in.I wish I could open up a facility and train all new grads because this is really sad:no:
