New grad with interview lined up, also getting married. When to mention needed time off?

Published

I'm a new RN and have an interview lined up with a nurse recruiter. I'm also getting married on May 8th, and leaving for the honeymoon from May 14-25.

I'm just wondering what the proper steps here would be? At what point do I mention needing time off, when/if I'm given an offer?

The ideal situation would be to interview now, get offered the position with a start date after all the wedding and honeymoon things are over, which would be at the very end of May. But I'm not sure how realistic it is that a job would have a start date so long after the interview process? I'm very new to this so I'm just not sure.

Do I say I am available to work a few days during the week between my wedding and honeymoon? Or do I just say I need to be off from the 8th to the 25th? Not sure what the best course of action here is.

Would appreciate any input.

Thanks!

When it comes time for you to ask questions, all them when the start date is for this particular position and how long the orientation is. If they call you back, you can continue that conversation further then.

Since you are going on a honeymoon and you dont even have a job, I am assuming that money managment isn't an issue for you. So, I say just do the interview, if he/she asks about availability/start time then do the honesty thing. Otherwise dont mention it until you are officially offered the job. You dont want a honeymoon to be part of the criteria upon which they assess your nursing ability do you?
