New Grad Influx?

Published

Does anyone know of the Army having the same huge influx of New Grad nurses wanting to join as active duty? The Navy told me 2 years of waiting to get in, Air Force said at least 1 year, but I haven't inquired about the Army.

Its crazy that people want to serve their country and there aren't even jobs there for us New Grads.

Thanks!

It seems that most of the new grads wanting to join the military are more interested in getting a job than serving their country.

I really hope you aren't implying that I am merely looking for a job. My husband is a disabled Army Vet and I am well aware that it is more than just a job as we live with the choice of him serving our country every day.

So, if anyone one has any valuable advice related to joining the Army and being a new grad that would be wonderful! :redbeathe:redbeathe

Nope, not implying anything simply stating a fact relating to the numerous posts on here related to the recession, difficultly finding a job, and as a last resort turning to the military.

All the advice about entering the military is on here in droves all you have do is search through the threads to find what you need, and after that simply ask any specific question you want answered and someone on here should be able to point you in the right direction.

that is one thing that annoys me in general when i tell people that i joined the nurse corps with the air force. they all assume i am doing it because i couldn't find a job. no, i didn't look for any other job but this. i started this last year when i was in my junior year. i want to serve and if i know how to do it by being a nurse than that is how i am going to do it.

I already have a job, but I still want to join the Army because that's what I wanted to do..My grandfather was a US ranger and die during war..

on a side note, i don't want people to take my post the wrong way. i am just letting my frustration out because most of my people don't understand why i get annoyed.

Now that I'm at my first base, people are asking where I'm from. Being that I'm a captain, they figure I've been in awhile and just PCS'd from another unit. When I say that I just joined and got captain for so many years experience and that I left a good job, house, and family, and took a pay cut .... they always seem to say "why?". I joined for the right and responsibility to serve, but how do you explain that to someone who doesn't get it? Sometimes, I have to explain it to myself even. lol.

And to answer the OP, yes, I believe ALL branches of service are feeling the influx. With the Army, it's even to the point where nurses with experience and a skill identifier (ER, in my case) are also having to compete for the opportunity to serve because there aren't as many slots.

Lots of people are turning to the military for any job because they can't find something somewhere else.
