I just graduated from nursing school on Tuesday :) and tomorrow I have my first interview for a Trauma ICU. I've never interviewed for an RN position before. I am so nervous. Can you offer me advice, tips and what not to dos?! I don't need common sense things, haha. I don't know what types of questions to be prepared for or anything! Thanks in advance.

Be 15 minutes early. Dress in a suit. Bring copies of your resume on resume paper. Have photocopies of your RN license, your CPR card, and your written references if you can get them all together. It is nice to hand them a packet as you leave. Go through all of these questions and know what you will say. Think of what patient scenarios you will use to answer questions. Smile and be friendly, first and foremost you need the interviewer to like you.

Knock their socks off! I printed this document out when I graduated and have had it in my resume folder ever since. It has beem very helpful. The only interview that threw me for a loop was one for icu, where I was asked pbds type scenarios and had to guess what was wrong with the patient. They were all fairlyu obvious - youg girl, smoker on birth control pills, starts having pain in her calf after a long flight from Japan. What do you suspect, what would you assess, what labs would you look at etc etc. I think I sweat a lot in that one! But for the most part the regular interview questions come up and they are on that johns hopkins info.
Thank you! I didn't even know there was such a place. Thanks!
Mjb2010- Thank you so much! I will print that out and review it thoroughly. I really appreciate your help!
Be sure to grab a business card from the person you interview with! Then you can send a thank you card or email after. I am usually so nervous I hear them say their name but never remember it after. I usually take it "just in case I have any questions pop up". Make sure you ask how long orientation is!
Thank you. 3 ladies, the Nurse manager, a day shift, and night shift nurse interviewed me. I think it went well. They asked a lot of situational questions. Thank you very much! I immediately wrote my thank you letter. :) Thank you for your help! I really appreciate it.
Did you get the job?
