New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

World Registration

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Hi!

I am a Registered Nurse here in the Philippines with 1 year hospital volunteer experience. I already have my IELTS. Am I qualified for the BP in Australia? What are requirements? Do you have the list of schools offering BP in Victoria? Thanks! :)

The lowdown is that all nurses will eventually need Master of Nursing...to be nurses, but thats in the future.

Adding on to this: There are hospitals who give an allowance for a Masters or a Doctoral degree.

hello, :)

i have read about that "awards" which would mean like an additional money you will receive with your base salary considering the "special or advance" qualification or specialization that you a RN have...

with regards to your info above, would i assume that you are referring to "allowances" given by certain hospitals to employees who are taking masteral/doctoral while working with their hospital? right? was that your referring to, something like educational assistance allowance..

nway i was clarifying for information only..

i understood the point explained by ceridwyn about the difference between a nurse who has a "first" nursing degree, and a nurse with no "first" nursing degree, vis-a-vis post grad, masteral, salary issues.. i think i understood it..

that masteral degree requirement in the future, is new info to me.. wow.. which would make me think and speculate.. in that case, in the future, if i would be able to obtain my masteral nursing, then it might be possible that i would be tempted to work in another country where there are few masteral nursing RNs and where they will consider me at higher nursing rank level thus i would be receiving salary much much higher than Oz might offer by that time..

above is just for our intellectual consumption... just my curiosity, im not really rendering any opinion because im not an expert particularly on this issue that tickles my imagination..

peace guys gals... lets chill... sorry.. have a nyc day..;)

@ cioman94: i'm glad they are valid questions. ahihi

_____

hi! i e-mailed ahpra myself and this is what i got:

this is my e-mail to them:

greetings! i have several enquiries regarding nursing registration by overseas nurses. (i'm a filipino)

1. do you have a sample (not the format) for the curriculum vitae and certificate of service?

2. the curriculum vitae must be signed by me or by an employer? please clarify this issue.

3. ahpra requires that the "role" must be included in the statement of service. what roles specifically? like coordinating with the health care team, suctioning, iv meds, etc? is "role" synonymous to an rn's job description? i "role" the nursing skills itself?

4. in the "proof of identity part", i have australian "tourist" visa for category a; overseas passport for category b; registration certificate froma professional board for category c; and for category d, i still need to convert my driver's license to an international one, or i could just get a bank account. will all of this suffice?

5. do you have a list of bp schools with their requirements regarding nursing experience? (my worries is that i have 9 months unpaid volunteer experience). is it possible to be able to enrol in a bp school while i'm still in the philippines? (for example, through idp australia branch in the philippines)

6. are there any required immunizations and medical certificates?

7. what is the current situation of nursing unemployment/employment in australia and its states, especially those concerning overseas fresh bp graduates with zero nursing experience?

8. i didn't commit any crime and don't hold any criminal record in any country. do i still have to include an nbi clearance or any document that certifies that i didn't commit any crime?

* here is a gist of my qualifications

bsn, rn (philippines)

nclex-rn passer (california, usa)

ielts passer

9 months unpaid volunteer nursing experience (same job description and work as paid staff nurse) in a tertiary hospital

this is ahpra's reply:

i am writing in reply to your email to ahpra below

1. the cv format is on the ahpra website, and it is part of the application process to complete a cv in your own words. the application form gives the requirements for a statement of service from an employer;

2. the cv must be signed by the applicant as true and correct and by each employer against the section where you have stated employment details; so, each employer should sign in each section of stated employment... just want to inform you that i will not follow this instruction, instead i will just secure a statement of service duly signed by employer.. however, if you could convince your employer to sign the section/s, then that is very good for you, do it if you can..

3. the role relates to the registration type e.g. registered nurse, enrolled nurse, midwife;

4. the proof of identity document for registration is a current passport and visa- the other requirements can only be met once you are resident in australia;

5. experience as a nurse is a different category to education as a nurse;

6. immunisation requirements for employment are an employer requirement, not a registration requirement;

i suggest you try to read the website of one of the bp providers.. this will give addtional information for original questions no. 5 and 6..

7. you need to contact potential employers about this question; ...employment/unemployment situation in australia? besides the information we post in this thread which were based on the forumer's actual job hunting experience and knowledge, my suggestion: you can obtain further statistical information from australia's deewr website, anf, and even the doh of each state of australia...

8. include as a supporting document any information that scribes your suitability for registration as a nurse in australia and refer to the suitability statements on the application form;

___

i hope i am not violating any confidential issues because i posted their reply in this forum. i only did that with the intention of helping others.

btw, i have some comments regarding their reply:

1. they don't have a straightforward answer regarding the "volunteer issue" (if i am right, they see volunteer as same with nursing education, even though i already stated that the job description of a staff nurse and a volunteer nurse is the same) this matter of experience and "volunteer" were initially discussed and tackled in page 01 of this thread.

on the other hand, you said you have 9 mos. volunteer experience, my personal suggestion is for you to "close" it out to 1 year exp., meaning continue and earn 3 mos. experience or training program so that in your resume and application letter you could easily say "1 year nursing experience" (butal kasi if you will jst state 9 mos. exp., bitin di ba)..

2. all non-australian citizens can only satisfy category a and b of proof of identity. so i should only get passport and australian visa? please clarify..

3. we really have to do cv in our own simple ways...

4. i still need an international nbi even though my criminal record is a clean slate (but only for supporting document purposes)

...personal suggestion... you eventually gonna apply for visa, either 456 or student, better read rules & requirements of said visas in diac website.. this "nbi" and clearances are among those discussed in the said website..

above in red are just my personal suggestions.. it would be up to you to consider them or not.. good luck..

@ aking_skye

did you ask why was it denied? was it because NZ is temporarily not accepting overseas nurses?
