new grad conundrum

Published

So I'm a new grad who's been searching for a job since last may (a BSN will have no prob getting a job my ass...). Recently I got offer a med-surg position at a small hospital, and a secretary position in an ED at another; that pays RNs more. I was told that they will be offering new grad positions in the ED around July and I would have a better chance as an internal candidate. The secretary job is full time so I can't juggle both till then.

I would much rather work as an RN but I really want to be in the ED. What would you recommend I do?

Specializes in Pediatrics.

Take the RN position!

Having worked in the ED as a CNA for 3 years and having an established relationship with excellent reviews plus doing my preceptorship in the ED and still not get hired, I would jump at a med-surg position which you can later go almost anywhere.

A "chance" vs a real acute care position - take the position

I would love to be back in the ED as a nurse, but I have spent the last 1.5 in SNFs, and LTC, hospitals still will not look at me because I do not have acute care expereince, get the acute care expereince and then go where you want

Another vote for the RN position.

During my job search I got a job offer for a dispatch position with a medical transport company. I was ready to take that in order to have some sort of income while continuing my job hunt and to hopefully network there. I ended up getting offered an RN job in an ED but I would have accepted ANY job that had me using the degree and license I worked so hard for over a non-nursing job that may or may not have linked me up with a nursing position.
