New Grad Career Advice

Published

I am a new grad RN and military wife. Because of my husband's career we moved to another state immediately after I graduated, so needless to say, I have had trouble finding a job. I graduated first in my class and was well liked by all my nursing instructors in school and I'm struggling with seeing all of my friends from school who have started their new jobs already. I just feel defeated. So my question is, should I accept a job in home health to gain some experience even though it wasn't what I had in mind? I desperately want to work in a hospital but it seems like without having done my clinicals in any of the hospitals here that's not going to happen. I'm worried that if I start out working in home health that I will be pigeonholed and I will have to give up on ever working in a hospital. Am I wrong?

Any nursing experience is better than none. Starting out in home health does not mean you will never be able to work in the hospital. I have worked with many former home health nurses in the hospital setting. Keep looking for what you want while gaining experience. Good luck.
