New Grad - BMT

Published

Hi guys! I would love to chat with some BMT nurses. I'm a new grad and was just hired onto a well-respected BMT unit and am feeling super nervous/excited at the same time. There are a few other topics on the subject, but many are old and I would really like to connect with some nurses who are currently active on the forum. I don't have any questions necessarily - my unit director told me to relax during the summer and not prepare aside from passing the NCLEX. Looking forward to hearing back and connecting with some of you!

If you've read that whole thread, particularly LaRoseRN's and carolinapooh's posts, then you should have a very good idea of what to expect. Despite the fact that those posts are 2 years old, let me assure you that nothing has changed since then.

But keep in mind, depending on which Institution you work at, policies and procedures will obviously vary. There are also different levels of care among BMT units. There are straight BMT units, BMT stepdown/telemetry units, and BMT ICU's.

I have read the entire thread. I'm mostly looking to conntect with people currently and get some discussion going. The thread is incredibly helpful, but folks have different experiences, and people who are active on the forum now would be able to respond back and forth. :)

Thanks for your input! I gravitated toward my unit because it seems like the nurses are well respected - that's the kind of learning environment I was looking for..The patient ratio is 3:1 and although it's not classified as an ICU, patients are rarely sent out of the unit/cared for elsewhere. I'm looking forward to seeing it in action and becoming a part of the team.
