Hi!!all...

This is Aneesha. I was going viz the agony abt the immigration and AOS. I am so glad that I found this forum.

May be you guys can help me with my problem.

I am here in US in F-1 status. Since I am RN from my country, I will not get OPT to start working in hospital. I am done with Nclex-RN and TOefl-IBT.

What should I do next? I havent started looking for employer because I am stucked in this problem as I am not allowed to work in F-1.

Plzzzzzzz..anybody help me:madface:

Can I ask were you there on an F1 visa to make up nursing hours to be allowed to sit nclex or another course altogether?

I think your next step is to find an employer who will sponser your green card and offer you a job, but my understanding of things is you will not be able to work while you file for AOS to this immigrant category. It could mean 4-5 months not working while you file for AOS.

Hopefull someone with much more knowledge will be along soon to help you. You have come to the right place for support the people here are amazingly generous with their time to help.

Ash81, Get a visascreen certificate. Then get an employer's petition. (I-140). Read the Visascreen thread about news regarding I485 (Adjust status). Adjust status and get an employment authorization document I765 at the same time. Check the USCIS Service centers online websites for processing dates for each form. Only the Nebraska service center receives I-140, along with all the other forms riding on it, but they send most of those to Texas.

Oh, and if you dont have an SSN or license yet...get those too...you're gonna need a good immigration lawyer for all this stuff.

You do not get a SSN# untio you have completed the immigraiton process, you cannot just get one. If you pass NCLREX-RN, then you have a license. At least in most states.

F-1 status means a student visa. You will not be able to get the OPT, but you may qualify for the CPT while you are actually in school. Check with the advisor at your school. Are you actually taking nursing courses, or classes in another field?

You do not need to worry about any of the processing centers. You do nit have a choice with center and actually never did. It has always been based on where your employer is based. Not the center that you wanted.

I would look for an employer and get the Visa Screen process started, if you have not alreadt done so. Since you did not attend basic nursing training in the US, you will need to complete the series of English exams before the VSC will be issued.

Thanks to rsmit02, ethan, Suzanne for ur suggestions.

Yeah..I have ss# as well as english exams done, with visa screen in process. And also I am taking general classes for rn-bsn programme.

I will talk to my international advisor ( college) regarding CPT.

Thanks again,
