New to Excelsior College

Published

Greetings,

I am new to EC, and wanted some advice from those you are in the program or about to graduate. What are some study tips, books to read? I have all my prequiestes and therefore will be starting my nursing classes? About on average how long does it take to start to finish with each class? Very eager to get started and complete the program? Thanks in advance! Anyone in DC, VA or Md that wants to do a study session let me know.

i recommend studygroup101 study guides and audio cheap but a really great resource. i passed all my classes and hardly cracked a book. saving up for cpne now! :cat:

Be sure to go by the content guide syllabus and purchase the practice exams when you register that go with the exam. studying the rationales really helps.

Thanks a bunch. Im very anxious and nervous at the same time. How long did it take you from your 1st nursing class to your CPNE?

Haven't taken CPNE yet. saving up for it. I started fJan 2014 officially but I did a couple prereqs before enrolling.

Good luck with EC! I graduated from there in 1994 when it was still Regents College. Stick with it and study for that CPNE!!! Use whatever tools you can to study. When I went there was no real prep for it. .. You can do it!

Getting a CPNE test date takes 2 to 5 months. I was told last week it may possibly be 8 months before I get a date.

I've heard a lot of people were told it could be 8 months for CPNE. Most people seem to get in in about 4. Being willing to travel to any of the locations would help too. I'm finishing up my last theory exam now. Hoping to finish the FCCAs by the end of summer and do CPNE sometime in the late fall/winter. I'm having to take my time as I trying to pay out of pocket instead of taking out any more loans. ( I'm still paying off LPN school. Uffda!). Making flash cards from the practice exam questions and using the Saunders NCLEX RN book to study have been lost helpful for me. Good luck to you! And take-your-time!! This school is difficult and if you're too worried about rushing through you will struggle.

Thanks, that's why I'm asking.. Trying to get my mind set on the right things to keep me focus. I want to be done in less than 14 months but I don't know.

Thanks..what do you suggest that I use to study for the CPNE, and what does it consist of?

after passing the CPNE when can you get authorized to take the nclex? I heard 60 days, is this true?

It depends on your state board of nursing when you get your ATT. I graduated in Nov, passed NCLEX on jan 3 and was licensed in Feb. It's a long process in NJ.

To the poster about nursing study guided I also recommend Study 101, An NCLEX review book, practice tests from Excelsior and my LPN textbooks. Passed everything with an A or B. Good luck!
