New DNP Program at GWU in DC

I haven't applied to the DNP, but am waiting on a decision from their MSN for ANP. They told me they will make a decision on Tuesday and I will know shortly after that. The MSN seems manageable. What is the difference in tuition compared to the MSN? The MSN is 485, which some of the cheapiest I've seen. I will be starting in the fall as well. Who knows we might have a couple of classes together, that is if I get accepted. I would imagine their might be some money out their. I always say that if there is a will, there is a way. Good luck.

I will certainly keep my fingers crossed for you. With the BSN entry - you are actually accepted in the DNP program. The EC told me hat you take traditional MSN classes for the first 39 credits depending on your practice concentration. I will be focused on the ANP then after the initial 39 credits are finished you begin the doctoral piece. Apparentl you begin your major project within the first year. The cost is not that far off from the MSN at $533.00 per credit hour.

I am sure we will have classes together - especially if you also start in the fall.

The application deadline for the DNP is not up until April 30th - so I am certain I will not hear anything until the first week of May. I spoke with Sarah and she said that they try to make their decisions as soon as possible after the application deadline. Yes - please kee your fingers crossed for me too. hi there - what do you hope to do with your dnp? my local college of nursing (where i got my post-msn cns) is now offering a dnp but i wonder about the availability of jobs.

hi judi - i am wanting to earn the dnp so i can combine practice and research together. the program offered by gwu has a great deal of research as a part of the core. i guess for me - the dnp combines the best of both worlds. i truly believe that a dnp graduate will not only be a consumer of research - but also an investigator of nursing phenomena. in addition - i want to be able to teach and practice.

i know there is a great deal of controversy over this degree - but i believe the introduction of the dnp aligns the nursing profession with other health care disciplines that are now offering this (in some cases as the entry level degree for practice).

some of the position letters i have read certainly raise some great questions - but all in all - i think the dnp is a good thing for me.

I got an email which said congratulations and that the official letter and orientation packed will be arriving soon. I still can't believe it.

Wow that is really great. I hope I have a favorable decision that is emailed to me.

Update - Made the decision after much discussion with friends in academia that the DNP was not the route for me at this time. So - back for the MSN and then the PhD.
