Hi,
I just got my papers and met with my unit (CSH 396th).
Wow, was I in for a shock. Apparently they have changed the requirements for
OBLC (I expected a change, but not this).
According to the unit TNG NCO:
I can not go to "OBLC (3 weeks long)" until I complete OBLC HPSP/RC which is offered only once a year lasting 6 weeks---in June 2009.
The courses are back to back at Fort Sam Houston.
6-8-C20(OBLC HPSP/RC) 6/15/2009 to 7/27/2009
6-8-C20(RC) OBLC 7/31/2009 to 8/31/2009
So, has anybody else been told this? Does anyone have any idea with whom I can "confirm" this information?
This is unreal. That means anyone who enters "direct commission" has to wait a full year to take this course before they can take the "other" OBLC and be deployable....... Not only that the course sound very similar, see the below links:
OBLC HPSP https://www.atrrs.army.mil/atrrscc/courseInfo.aspx?fy=2009&sch=081&crs=6-8-C20(OBLC+HPSP%2fRC)&crstitle=AMEDD+OFFICER+BASIC+(HPSP%2fRC)&phase=
OBLC https://www.atrrs.army.mil/atrrscc/courseInfo.aspx?fy=2009&sch=081&crs=6-8-C20(RC)&crstitle=AMEDD+OFFICER+BASIC+(RC)+(OBLC)&phase=2
Thanks for any help you can provide. I have gone "round and round" with this individual who books our education in our unit.....
cb:crying2:
p.s. there are all these open spots for regular OBLC (RC) that I could be in--in 2008!!!
Hello All!
This is to lifeafter40:
Hey, any ribbons or medals you are awarded are yours, for life, my friend. Don't give up so easily. I would hope you kept the paper certificate that accompanied your medal, the "official proclamation" in the Army green case/holder? The one that had to be signed by your Commander?
There is a web site that if I nurse my neurons I will remember....Hold on......I will edit this once I remember the bloody thing! Regarding lost or missing awards/medals

OKAY I am back. Whew. I went to my AKO account a nd did a quick search and I believe this is the web page you need: www.archives.gov/st-louis/military-personnel/standard-form-180.html
You can download the form from that web page and just fill in the required information and fax or scan and email the information. (If you have edgewriter you would be able to complete the form on-line) I am sure they will ask you what unit you were in at the time and other stuff.
Good luck, keep us posted. And if I can be of any other assistance please do not hesitate to ask, okay? I hope that this will help you in your quest.

athena,
Thanks so much for the info! I have talked with people at VA and, as you said, if I can produce the proper documentation, then the awards can be reinstated. Unfortunately, I ETS'd over 10 years ago. When I got out, I was "done" with the Military... mulitiple moves and a divorce later, I am unable to locate any of that old paperwork:o
This one is all on me, but I hope it will serve as an example to others to always keep good records, and never get rid of official paperwork...whatever the reason!
Thanks again for all your help,
S
Hello cnelson2:
Ya know, I had almost the same type of experience when my packet for the Reserves was sent in. I had gotten three waivers: age, ortho, hearing (yeah, I know, it seems like the Army is so desperate that they will take anyone who has a pulse and is breathing:D) BUT I hadn't heard anything at all, and this was like four months later. My health care recruiter kept telling me that the wait would be difficult but geez....Anyway I wrote to HRC at St Louis and "their" reply to me was...(and this is an exact quote).."What packet?" I forwarded that response to my recruiter and low and behold! My packet was found and I received a phone call from him requesting my presence to be sworn in
But your circumstances are a wee bit different: You have already taken the Oath as a Commissioned Officer but you are in limbo and waiting.
I agree, write to HRC. Here is their web site: https://www.hrc.army.mil/site/Protect/Reserve/index.htm
cnelson, do you have an AKO account? The reason I ask is....I found out which TPU I would be with via the AKO account and then, two weeks later I got the correspondence in the mail.
Good Luck. I think the waiting is the worst part about the whole process. You've made up your mind, send in all sorts of paperwork, gotten through all the waiver business, went through MEPS and all that associative drama, and now you sit and w a i t for those darn orders.

Athena,
I will be going into the active army, and anyways, I do need an AKO to get into that web address you gave me. Thank you for your help-I'll probably be looking for you if you're still in El Paso come October. I will try to find out who in St. Louis might have any information since the HR in Alexandria supposedly turned in my paperwork. I think at this point, a phone number would be better. I read in a previous forum from olderthandirt that Mr. Staples might be a help..."put me in touch with an AMEDD guy from St. Louis named Mr. Staples (314-592-000 ext.5703".

Hi CN2,
Yeah, I got that phone number which is 314-592-0000 ext 5703 from "Jbrecon2", he gave me some great advice. Mr. Staples helped me --but it was about the Amedd OBLC course.---It doesn't hurt to try though......maybe he can put you in touch with the right person.
Just a side note. I am reserve, but I waited 5-6 weeks for my "orders" and my recruiter said it could take up to 2 months.....
good luck !

I can feel your pain! I have made my choice WAY early that this what I want to do... now I have to wait for at least three more years before I can really even start the process! meanwhile, I get worry about not even knowing if will be able to get in when the time comes... over 40 physical, background check, etc. I can only imagine what it must be like for those of you who have already been through the "Wringer" and can only wait! best wishes to to you, and hang in there!!

I commissioned in April 2008, healthcare recruiting sent my packet to HR in May, HR scheduled me for OBLC in August and gave me a PCS location, but I am still without orders 6 weeks out. The Army Healthcare recruiters say they don't know what the hang up is and seem to be concerned about it taking so long. All waivers including age and grade have been approved. Is there something that I should be doing such as calling St. Louis and asking about this?
